Outbox was founded with a vision to create an inclusive, impactful tech and innovation hub in Uganda, dedicated to empowering entrepreneurs, fostering collaboration, and driving positive change. Since our inception, we have brought together a vibrant community of innovators, partners, and social change-makers.
Our StoryOur journey
Community & Ecosystem Foundations (2012–2016)
From Passion to Possibility This phase represents the early roots of Outbox, grounded in community-driven innovation and the belief in Uganda’s untapped tech potential. The focus was on mobilising young developers, nurturing collaborative problem-solving, and building the country’s first developer communities through hackathons, university engagements, and Google-led initiatives. These efforts helped spark Uganda’s early innovation culture, led to the emergence of impactful startups like Xente, and shaped the idea of Outbox as a community-first hub, laying the foundation for its “think outside the box” philosophy and future growth.
Innovation Hub & Talent Enabler (2017–2020)
Formalisation and Early Growth This phase marked Outbox’s transition into a formal innovation hub, offering structured space, networks, and early-stage support for startups and developers. With backing from partners like Google for Startups and Deloitte, Outbox strengthened its focus on digital skills, entrepreneurship, and talent development. The launch of Outbox EDU signalled a shift from experimentation to institutional growth, alongside expanded partnerships, a growing team, and recognition as a leader in tech talent development in Uganda.
Enterprise Support Infrastructure & Systems Builder (2020–Present)
This phase marks Outbox’s evolution from a physical innovation hub into a trusted implementor of access-to-market and finance initiatives, driven by the need for scale and sustainability during and after Covid-19. The focus shifted to systems-building, inclusive programme implementation, and portfolio management, positioning Outbox as a strategic delivery partner for governments, development partners, investors, ESOs, and corporates across Uganda and Africa. Through compliant, tech-enabled, and data-driven approaches, Outbox now supports capital-ready MSMEs and aspires to become East Africa’s reference enterprise support infrastructure.
