Mariam, a 26-year-old boutique owner in Wakiso, has always relied on her smartphone to run her business. Every day she posted pictures of the dresses she sales on WhatsApp and Facebook, responding to customers and arranging deliveries. Like many young businesswomen, the phone was her shopfront, cash register, and customer service desk all in one.
But her confidence was shaken when a stranger tricked her into sending money for a fake delivery and later used her photos to scam people online. With her income lost and her reputation at risk, Mariam began questioning whether digital tools were helping her business.
At around the same time, during an outreach activity by Mkazipreneur, she learnt about the 10X Program Foundation Course, a free and practical online training course. With support from the Entrepreneurship Support Organization, she completed the module on “How to Stay Safe Online.” The course taught her how to recognize online scams, protect her photos and personal data, and strengthen her passwords.
Other modules helped her learn how to navigate her smartphone with confidence, use digital tools to reach more customers, manage her finances through simple budgeting and saving practices, and understand her role as an empowered entrepreneur.
The 10X Program Foundation Course is designed to be short, easy to understand, and flexible for busy entrepreneurs. It is accessible by phone or computer, and support is available through Enterprise Support Organisations.
